Mee CRC at Larut Cafe, Penang
Mee CRC used to sell right outside the Chinese Recreation Club of Penang many many years back. I remember the stall was there back in my early high school days, and they relocated when the club started its renovation and expansion works.
Ever since then, they have been in Larut Cafe – which is just a block behind the Penang Plaza or right opposite the KFC on Larut Road. This coffee shop is a corner shop, and the Mee CRC stall is practically the first stall in the shop.
The Mee Goreng here is similar to the other types of Mee Gorengs of Penang if you order the small version, but if you order the normal one, this is where it stands apart from the rest. The ingredients will be different, and the additions include chicken (or beef – your preference), vegetables, tomatoes, and pieces of fried prawn fritters.
Just like normal Mee Goreng, you also have the option of having it with or without egg. Let’s take a look at what the noodles look like without egg. This is my normal preference for Mee Goreng.
Let’s take a look at the noodles with egg next. It would really be a matter of preference, as it is with Char Koay Teow, Char Koay Kak and some other types of hawker food whether you will like it with egg or without.
The serving size is pretty generous and they are pretty good with the ingredients also,
Of course, if you want it extra spicy, just let them know and you’ll find the noodles coming in a darker and more reddish colour. We ordered one to share.

The Mee Masak is practically similar as a Mee Rebus in other such type of places. The gravy isĀ slightly sweetish and some people do prefer this over the fried variant.
I really like spicing the noodles up with some lime. Do squeeze some in – it does make a difference.
These seasoned green chilies are a real killer. They’re normally fresh and is pretty awesome accompaniment to whatever types of noodles you order. They’re not crazily spicy but they do give you a little extra ‘kick’.
You really can’t miss the stall in this coffee shop. The first stall at the corner right outside.
Some people prefer the normal Mee Goreng without the extra ingredients – but me, I really like this, especially with the chicken.
Only open during the daytime, do give them a try.
My rating: 4/5
