Canton Restaurant Doncaster East

Paid a visit to Doncaster East today. We originally planned to have dinner at Kobe Restaurant, but after having a look at the menu from outside we decided to just eat at this Chinese place beside it as it was a little pricey for us tonight.

The place had a similar style to most Chinese Hong Kong style restaurants, and wasn't very big, but had quite a comfy feel to it.

Sitting down, you'll be greeted with a complimentary soup while you browse through the menu.

We had some Peking duck to start, and were greeted by this gas burner for the wraps.

Here's the Peking duck, looked a bit 'little' for half a duck, but upon closer inspection there were a few pieces who had another slice sitting under it. The Peking duck was not bad, but I think the neighbouring King's Jade Restaurant was better.

Weird Al's new White and Nerdy

I love Weird Al' Yankovic. The first time I ever heard of him was from Desmond in high school. I remember him passing around this cassette of some of his songs telling everyone "this is damn funny".

Anyways, this is his newest hit video - a parody on white guys trying to be part of the African American gangster types.

Glad to know you still have it in you Al.

Ferrari Club Trackday

Me and SY headed over to Calder Race Park for the first time ever this morning. It was the Ferrari Club's trackday - and I heard all about it through our WRX club forums.

The WRX Club and the Skyline Club were among the clubs that were invited to compete together with the Ferraris on this day.

So the chance to see one of my all time favourite cars - the F40 and F50 were too much and I just had to be there to see them in the flesh.

We had to walk throgh the competitors' car park to get to the viewing area, and we passed this F430.

I love these black rims. Tough looking.

Met Ben and Hua for lunch today at Kayu Nasi Kandar at Box Hill.

Hua had the Chicken Nasi Kandar and chose the Fried Chicken option.

I had the Chicken Murtabak (boy have I Been craving for this for a long long time), with an additional piece of yummy fried chicken.

Tea Ren Tea Time

Tea Ren Tea Time is located on Swanston Street in between Bourke and Lt Collins beside Cafe L'incontrol.

Seriously, in my opinion it didn't look too inviting as a dinner destination - that's why I haven't been there before, but Ben was here before so he recommended we try it.

Ten Ren Tea Time

So I ordered the dinner set special, a crispy spicy and salted fried chicken combo which included a drink, tea jelly and 3 side dishes.

Interestingly the tea jelly was the first to arrive. Must be an appetiser I think.

Freaky Pinang tree

This must be the craziest religious stigma to appear in the northern region of Malaysia for ages.

This article in The Star last week caught my eye.

Pinang tree with a ‘face’ on a frond

KEPALA BATAS: A “scary-looking face” on a pinang tree has been drawing curious crowds to a village house in Kampung Paya near here.

Pinang Tree with a face

FACE OF ATTRACTION: The Pinang tree in Kampung Paya, Kepala Batas, with the face imprinted on the frond.
The face, which looks as though it is imprinted at the base of the frond, was spotted by owner Miah Majid, 60, last week.

As word about the tree spread, streams of visitors have been flocking to the kampung to look at the tree, which stands at 7.25m. The image faces east.

Miah said it was the second time an unusual shape had appeared on the 10-year-old tree.

The first formation was in the shape of an eye, she said.

“The frond will probably last another two weeks. By then it should shed naturally. So far, nobody has asked to keep the frond,” she added.

A few people were seen gathering at Miah’s backyard to look at the tree when The Star visited the place yesterday.

Village elders advised onlookers to “just look” and not to make comments.

Apparently within days, the village has become a mini carnival with stalls selling pisang goreng, drinks, fruits, etc popping up all over. Picture print souvenirs were even sold by the hundreds!

Freakily unimportant yet interesting in a way.

A nice little Freshie. I like.

Saw this on The Age today which I subsequently forwarded to my colleagues.

Awesome - try it out. It'll either wake you up on your sleepy Friday, or make you want to bash someone's head in (if you're under some heavy stress).

Have fun - enjoy!

Bumblebee - another clear photograph!

Here it is. Thanks to RustyWilliam83 posting this on Flikr - what a great shot.

Importantly, we now know where Bumblebee's wheels are located in bot form, as well as the location of the bumper, which seems to be his chest The bent number plate is a nice touch - I like it!

Jay's Farewell at Han Guuk Guan

Jay is a friend of SY from Thailand studying in the same course as she is. Since she's finished her course, this was her last weekend here before she flies back on Thursday for good.

She recommended we go to this Korean place.

Han Guuk Guan off Victoria Street (near Exhibition Street junction)

Let me tell you, this is not an easy place to find. It's situated off Victoria Street, walking into a small path to go in.

Here's a picture of everyone (minus me taking pictures of course).

Jay's group

Let's have a look at the food we had next.

I found more pictures going through fan forums, but these 2 particularly caught my attention.

Bumblebee
with an unidentified person (please drop a comment if you know who he is) as well as what's possibly Megatron frozen in ice!

Bumblebee and Megatron

The bumblebee picture certainly clarifies the scale in which these Transformers are going to be compared to us puny humans.

An Autobot group picture.

The way Megatron looks in the ice seriously reminds me of the Robotech SDF1 super fortress.

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE!

Here is a wallpaper of Optimus Prime from the upcoming Transformers movie (due 4th of July 2007).

These appear to be concept art boards - and I've put them together adding a little of my touch.

I know a lot of people are waiting to see this - so hopefully you enjoy using this desktop wallpaper while waiting for the release of this movie.

For some reason, there are a lot of people who are very uptight about the appearance of these images, so please don't ask me where I got them from. If you look hard enough, you'll be able to find them yourself.

Enjoy!

Andrew's Birthday BBQ in Hawthorn

Saturday 2 July 06 - 11 am. Location? This small park on Creswick Street, Hawthorn.

Well, I was still frying my bee hoon at 10 am, so naturally we were late. 40 mins late to be exact...

Anyways when we got there, the BBQ was already on the way - and Andrew and Su Yi had forgotten the satay sauce so they went back home to get it (they took 1 & 1/2 hours... they blamed it on traffic...).

4th September 2006 - What a low day

The first piece of news that greeted me this morning was that Andre Agassi has lost in the 3rd round of the US Open - and therefore he has now officially gone into retirement.

I'm a big fan of Andre, and back in my high school days when the game was dominated by him, Pete Sampras, Jim Courier and Michael Chang, he was my number 1 tennis idol.

"I have found loyalty. You have pulled for me on the court and life. I have found inspiration and you have willed me to win. Over the last 21 years I have found you and I will take you with me for the rest of my life."

Farewell Andre

The next low that came today was the lunch time news of the death of Steve Irwin - one of the world's most popular and active wildlife activist. A stingray barb had fatally pierced him through the chest and reportedly his heart.

I just couldn't believe it when I read the news. I thought someone had hacked into the news site and put that up as a sick joke. However, it was true as more news sites confirmed it - what a sad loss of a great man.

"I consider myself a wild-life warrior. My mission is to save the world's endangered species."

RIP Steve Irwin

Rest in peace crocodile man. Our thoughts and prayers goes out to your family.

Transformers - Optimus Prime poster!

It's been a while now since I last had a Transformers update.

Obviously a lot has happened since then - and perhaps the biggest ever is the leak of this Optimus Prime movie poster.

Optimus Prime Poster

Well - one thing for sure, we're not going to see the traditional "Generation 1" Transformers we've come to grown up with in the past.

What - just because we've seen Optimus Prime like that - doesn't mean the others will be different?

Ok, then take a look at Bumblebee's face.

Bumblebee's face

I can hear you say - "gee, this looks familiar". Yeah I think so too! It looks like those Ewoks from Star Wars! Don't believe me? Have a look yourself in the next picture. For reference, I've also included the original Bumblebee.

Anyways, here's another picture of the movie set, with some of the other cars that are going to be in the movie.

Some good looking cars there! Well, whatever they do with the movie, I can't wait to see it.
