Traffic in KL... back to normal!

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

I left the house at 7 am this morning like I normally do, and it was still pretty dark at that time so I had to turn on my headlights.

Feeling like any other KL day, and fooled by the slow sunrise I thought hey - I could possibly reach the gym early today.

As soon as I turned out of Subang - onto the Federal Highway, this was what greeted me.

Traffic jam in KL...

Holy crap.

Merry Christmas!

Have a good public holiday, and have a good Christmas day!

I just love Christmas and all the joy that seems to be in the air.

p/s. I'm blogging this from Rojak Rojak@The Curve - my internet connection at my aunt's place is still not ok... :(

Oh and National Treasure 2 is really quite enjoyable.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I was just at Singapore over the weekend, and it never ceases to amaze me how much people enjoy crowding the small country during Christmas time.

Whether it is taking advantage of the massive shopping sales taking place or for some other touristy reason, this country is choc a bloc full of people... everywhere!

SY was there with her family as well, so we managed to meet up while I was there as well. Christmas decorations was of course everywhere - especially around the popular Orchard Road area. Here we are in front of Paragon, in front of a very nicely decorated Christmas tree.

Me and SY in Paragon, nice man helped us take the picture.

My short holiday there was practically a shopping holiday as that seemed to be all I did - both with my family and SY.

Oh and I have to say that I really love the public wireless coverage in the Singapore CBD. Wireless@SG - the wifi hotspots are so fantastically fast and easy. All it takes is registering an account when you are in the hotspot and they send you an SMS with the password for your account.

Voila - easy internet connection everywhere.

Now if it is one thing that I have realised about Singapore during this trip it is this.

Singapore guys are much larger than Malaysian men in general.
Singapore girls on the other hand are skinnier than Malaysian girls in general.

Okay, close your gaping jaw and hear me out first, then tell me if you agree with me via comments.

Paintball at Mudtrekker, Kuang

Clarence had been asking me to join in for paintball for a while. As I wasn't really doing anything the last weekend I decided to join him and another of our old schoolmates, Kay Vern.

Now I've been to paintball a couple of times in Australia but have never played this with very experienced people. It seems that Clarence and Kay vern actually played this very regularly and on a competitive level, so I felt pretty excited to see how they play.

Their team, the home team for Mudtrekker at Kuang (around Sungai Buloh) was called Mud Legion and they were actually having a friendly with another team called the Hammers.

I realised these guys really meant business when I arrived at their safe zone/preparation area and saw them setting up their gear. They had their own markers, camouflage and body armour as well as all necessary equipment.

Allan, one of the Mudslingers, was kind enough to lend me his paintball marker, a Tippman A-5 which could shoot up till 300m (normal rental markers are about 150m) and even packed a full automatic mode.

Yesterday's traffic jam was probably the worst I have ever seen (and unfortunately been in) while I have been in Kuala Lumpur.

After work, it took me one and a half hours to travel less than 2 km from in front of my office to the Pavilion shopping center down the road. There were a lot of angry angry people in their vehicles and there were definitely many curses flying around as people became more impatient with the inability to actually move.

On the radio I hear that they have closed Jalan Parliament and all roads in KL are a mess. I see a lot of people looking at their watches and shaking their heads in disbelief. People waiting to go back via public buses on the street were looking extremely frustrated - especially when it started to rain heavily.

How can this happen? Traffic only started to go back to normal around 10-ish and I camped at Starbucks until then.

The main cause was the supposed rally at Parliament House - which had a snowballing effect thanks to the moron who decreed that main roads should be closed or have checkpoints set up to slow people down especially during peak hours in KL effectively crippling all roads.

Reading the news (from alternative media of course) so far, it wasn't even a rally. The opposition had organised to hand in a memorandum to the Parliament to try to stop the decision of the UMNO-majority house to pass a bill to extend the tenure of the man who is heading the Election Commision who is supposed retire.

If you don't understand why - think about it this way. The man heading the Election Commision is basically in charge of the election process in the country. If the top man is corrupted (just IF), then obviously there will be a bias towards...for example the ruling party (perhaps?) to ensure they will be reelected in the next general elections... which coincidentally is around the corner.

This will ensure that the ruling party goes on for another term 'legally' re-elected.

Anyways going back to yesterday - check out the following video of the multiple arrests the police made against the opposition party on parliament grounds.

Useless roadblocks in KL

On the way to work this morning I encountered two police roadblocks. I normally leave the house around 7 am, so at that time the rush hour traffic hasn't really started yet so the traffic was not too bad.

One roadblock on the Federal Highway just after the Sunway/LDP bridge and the other just after the old KTM station in front of the big post office.

Sure - they think another rally is going to happen in KL today that's why they're setting up these roadblocks.

Were they inspecting the cars? Nope.

Were they looking out for potential rally-goers? Didn't really seem like it.

Did they cause a worse traffic jam on a weekday during morning rush hour? Yup. On many roads into KL even.

What did I see the police officers do at the Sunway roadblock? Chatting by the side of the road. C - H - A - T - T- I - N - G.

Holy crap.

There are tonnes of places to eat in Puchong. It seems that everywhere you turn in this area, there's either a kopitiam, or a restaurant.

One place that stands out in this area is Bumbu Bali, a Balinese cuisine restaurant in Bandar Puteri (Lot 18, Jalan Persiaran Puteri 1). They also take reservations, and you can call them at (03) 8061 8699.

What is unique about this place is the probably the decor and environment. Wooden chairs, wooden statues, pictures of Buddha and tonnes of greenery work together to give this place a Balinese feel.

Just joined the Apple hippies!

After deliberating for a long long time, I have finally bought my first laptop yesterday at good ol' Lowyat Plaza.

Yup! I have now gone mobile. :)

Well, I have never ever thought I'd need a laptop until I moved to KL. I really do not want to lug my trusty PC everywhere with me so unfortunately so I just had to bite the bullet and get one.

As I have never really owned a laptop before nor have I ever owned any Apple product before for the matter, this fellow really feels very alien to me as I grow accustomed to how simple everything looks and feels.

Not to mention that now I have every right now to sit in those Starbucks cafes with a cup of coffee and surfing the Internet aimlessly for the entire night.

Rather than taking tonnes of pictures of my lovely new laptop which seems to be the norm for tonnes of Apple hippies all over the world I have decided to do what every other girl does with their laptops with built in cameras. Come to think of it it's not only them Apple hippies, but it seems that anyone with a webcam nowadays. The line is certainly blurring indeed.

What - don't show me your shocked faces, have a look at Friendster and Facebook and tell me I am talking through my waste producing hole. Hah! :)

Ok here goes. I fired up this utility that is aptly named PhotoBooth, and snap snap snap.

Here's me with my "I am now a shocked Mac user face".

Hmmm pretty fun this built-in web cam thing so maybe I'll take some more. Afterall, girl hippies especially will be taking like 20-30 pics.
