Awesome Blossom no more

I went to Chilli's today for the first time in many many months with Desmond and Joshua.

Now just before we were going there I was talking about how good the Awesome Blossom is - which is a beautiful deep fried onion strips creation that to me is one of Chilli's signature dishes.

Onion ring lovers like me will (probably) agree with me that this is indeed one of the most enjoyable variations of deep fried onions.

Now this was the very first thing that I planned to order today, and after a few rounds pouring through the menu in the Gurney Plaza branch in Penang, I was very puzzled as to why I couldn't find this on the menu.

We then decided to ask the waiter about this. To my very surprise the answer was this - "the awesome blossom has been taken off the menu".

When we asked him why this was so, the answer was because this dish just took too long to prepare, and was just too much of a hassle.

Holy crap! But isn't this one of the signature dishes of Chilli's? When I think about Chilli's I will think about this impressive deep fried onions which is arranged around the dipping sauce making it look like a flowering blossom - which is where it got its name from.

How can they remove this from the menu???

This was just wrong. Very very wrong in my opinion. Signature dishes, no matter how difficult or time consuming to prepare, must never be removed from the menu for those very reasons. Why else then would it be a signature dish?

I don't know if this is the case with the Chilli's around Malaysia, and I really can't be bothered now to go scout around to see if this is what has happened around the country so I'm asking this to my readers, if you have been to Chilli's recently, has this been removed from the menu?

The only alternative that we had to settle for today, was to order a side order of deep fried onion strips, which was similar to the Awesome Blossom, but just not quite.

Chilli's Malaysia, if you can hear me, please bring back the Awesome Blossom. If your competitors (like Tony Roma's) can do it, why can't you? The very reason that I heard today is just absolutely ludicrous and ridiculous.

Minus one in my books for this American chain in Malaysia.
