Snowy white Lake Mountain

| 5 Comments | No TrackBacks

Up until 9:30 pm on Friday night, I was really wondering if I should join Andrew, Suyi, Ben, Ade and HS to go up Lake Mountain on Saturday. Waking up at 7 am on a Saturday to go up to what may be uncomfortable weather (snow showers with moderate winds predicted) doesn't sound too tempting.

I have to say now though, that luckily - I decided to go. I have been up Lake Mountain a couple of times before on drives with Richard and Ed, but I have never been up there during winter.

The beautiful landscape around this mountain is so surreal and beautiful in winter. The snow and ice on the road side and on the trees on the way up make it one heck of a sight to take in.

Lake Mountain is a cross country ski resort, and is apparently the best in Victoria. Being one of the closest mountains to Melbourne, this is the place to be for family fun and to experience winter snow. It is also known for tobogganing - which kids (and everyone else) absolutely love.

Foggiest in 7 years?

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

In the 7 years I have been in Melbourne, I have never seen it foggier.

Apart from the haze episode earlier this year, this is pure natural fog.

The weather is certainly going nuts.

2 Melbourne flights were diverted to Adelaide in the morning - the Singapore Airlines SQ237 which I know very well, and another from another airline from LA.

Prose from the Pros
One may get flight airline tickets on time if he books well in advance for flights to london. This cannot be said for new york flights though. There are other flights however, that offer flight discounts for domestic flights. This is apart from the discount flights for students.

Koonya Back Beach - Mornington Peninsula

Before I wiped out my blog database earlier this year, I had an entry at the end of 2004 about my visit to the Mornington Peninsula.

I recently went back to this wonderful beach area when SY's family was around - visiting my favourite back beach area. If you're wondering what a back beach is - it is basically the side of the beach that is facing the ocean. In this case - this beach is facing the Bass Strait so if you get swept away by the waves you just might find yourself ending up in Tasmania, or worse - maybe the South Pole.

Ok - maybe that was just exaggeration.

Anyways, this particular beach that I like is the Koonya Back Beach - what's so special about it?

When the tide goes out (low tide), beautiful mini aquarium like rock pools will be left behind. Fish that had decided to linger will be left behind in these pools - as will smaller sea creatures.

Hazy hazy Melbourne

Over the past few days since Saturday (10/12) Melbourne has been shrouded in a blanket of haze as major bush fires rage across parts of Victoria.

In the (almost) 6 years that I have been in Melbourne, this is the first time I have ever seen the city like this.

It almost reminds me of the bad hazy days in Malaysia during the yearly "lets be morons and burn every jungle" times from our neighbours.

Let me share some pictures of Melbourne with you. Note these pictures are taken at around 5pm, which on normal days is still nice and bright with clear skies.
