Datacom is an Australian/New Zealand technology solutions provider. My core responsibility is leading a team that builds and works on web projects for Australian clients. Majority of projects are built over an internally developed Content Management System (CMS).

Our sites are primarily built in .NET and have varying amounts of customisation requiring different levels of development from the architectural layers up to the front end.

I manage a team consisting of a web designer and web developers. As a team lead, I played both the role of technical lead and project manager to manage the day to day activities of the team. We also needed to maintain a close relationship with our Australian counterparts and stakeholders.

As a line manager I was also responsible for my team's career development, performance reviews, as well as implementing the company supported Gallup employee engagement program.

I have also had the opportunity to play a web producing role in a few web projects utilising my skills and expertise in user interface design, working closely with my web designer and web developers from other teams.

In this producing role, I produced User Interface Specifications as well as liaising with the stakeholders in determining the content and design for our web projects.

My primary day-to-day work revolved around the user interface or front end work for all the sites that are under the SEEK brand. I worked in project teams implementing enhancements and projects of all scales for the SEEK website(s).

As a team career lead, I was also a line manager for team members in the User Interface Developers team. Responsibilities include everyday management, annual objective setting, career planning, career development and annual performance reviews.

My core skills required for everyday work includes HTML, CSS, Javascript, ASP, C# .NET and mid-weight graphic design.

I also had experience in AJAX implementation in the user interface stream. Our support systems at SEEK include a recently implemented SAP system, Visual Studio Team Foundation Server and Microsoft SharePoint 2007.

My functional specialty is usability design. I am familiar with all aspects of web design, from the initial design phase to the usability acceptance testing and finally implementation/deployment phases.

I was also the CSS subject matter expert for the company. I am responsible for the implementation and design of the CSS architecture for the entire suite of websites under SEEK.

While working in this role, I have been developing my skills to hopefully move on into future roles of website producing, team lead/management and website management.

My graphic design knowledge complements my continual development of skills as a branding and creative consultant.

One of my clients is Intelligent Insights International (http://www.i-insights.com) – a research consultancy based in Penang, Malaysia.

Scope of work included logo brainstorming, brand identity and promotional material design.

My web design service includes a complete branding and design service. In conjunction with my branding consultation – I am able to assist from the early logo/brand brainstorming and organisation branding setup.

This allows me to ensure that the websites designed and built are all specifically catered towards the clients’ needs while ensuring that their users remained the focus through usability design principals.
